REQUIEM FOR THE IMMORTAL 86 x 68 inches, Oil on Canvas, 2010
REQUIEM FOR THE IMMORTAL, a solo exhibition at Schroeder Romero and Shredder New York, NY 2012.
Based on the classic story of Faust, REQUIEM FOR THE IMMORTAL is a pictorial opera told through paintings, drawings and sculpture. In this series, I play the devil’s messenger Mephistopheles, the demon seducer, who showers Faust with unlimited creativity and an embarrassment of riches. My Mephisto is both tempter and guide, real and corporeal, embodying the passion and ego of my artist self.
REQUIEM FOR THE IMMORTAL embodies the theatricality of the baroque while utilizing contemporary heavy metal tonalities, chronicling the path of the artistic journey and the artist’s insatiable desire for the creative eternal. The work is both ancient and new, real and unreal; the artist’s reminder that we were born to be creators, never spectators.
